Random note: Between 146 and 49 BCE there were 8 (!) Cornelii Lentuli consuls, but who can say what they did? I mean, of what achievements they were/are famous of?
Have been reading about Domitii Ahenobarbi today. Interesting bunch. Couple of quick impressions:
-Consulships at 192, 162, 122, 96, 94, 54, 32, 16 BCE
-It seems that whenever something of importance happens, there is a Ahenobarbus hanging around at the side of the victor (excl. cos 32).
-Early consules of this family seem to have been soldiers and later on Ahenobarbi seem to get the rich provinces before their consulships.
-They marry and get their children to marry with the cream of the Roman nobility.
-Quick conclusion: they knew how to manage a powerful family in the late republic and early empire period.
